A paedophile voyeur hid cameras in his work toilets and shared sick sexual fantasies about raping children and dismembered bodies, a south Essex court has heard.
Nirav Vaja, 21, of School Avenue in Basildon, was jailed on Thursday (June 4) after being caught with a hoard of child sexual abuse images, including some recording the rape of a baby.
Yesterday as he was sentenced the court heard a series of sickening messages he sent to fellow deviants in an online group chat.
After being caught with the stash of abuse images, he carried on downloading more and was then caught publicly masturbating in the shop where he worked.
He pleaded guilty in February to offences including voyeurism, outraging public decency and making and distributing indecent images of children.
The court heard the “isolated” defendant was drawn into a dark corner of the internet and felt he had to keep sharing increasingly disturbing fantasies and material to fit in.
After being arrested and bailed over indecent images offences, he continued downloading more but also “escalated” into offline offending.
He began hiding his phone in the toilets at the One Beyond store in Romford where he worked, to secretly film people.
He also pleasured himself behind the shop counter.
He told fellow perverts that in addition to public masturbation, he wanted to “rape someone”, and shared twisted fantasies about sexual interference with dead bodies.
On his initial arrest, he was caught with more than 400 illegal images and videos across five devices.
They included 145 at Category A, depicting penetrative or sadistic sexual abuse of children.
He also had 63 at Category B, 60 at Category C, 174 prohibited images of children and 21 extreme pornographic images.
“The involvement with this chat goes over a period of months,” prosecutor Mark Tomassi told Vaja’s sentencing hearing at Southend Crown Court.
“The defendant is sending videos to someone using the name Harry and the extreme pornography involves sex between humans and animals.
“During the chat, the defendant talks about his attraction to the images depicting sexual activity in particular and disturbingly, the court might think, with cadavers and dead, dismembered bodies.
“Some of these images, and in particular the ones of sexual congress with a baby, are so disgusting and so egregious that the court has to stop and reflect.”
Appearing via video link from Chelmsford Prison, where he has been on remand since October, he told the court: “I have learned the consequences of my actions… My behaviour has contributed to the demand for new images.”
His father, in the public gallery, wept as Vaja spoke.
Recorder Mark Ockelton jailed Vaja for 33 months.
Vaja will also be subject to lifelong sex offenders register notification and a ten-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) restricting his use of internet-enabled devices.
